Michelle joined the Yunus Centre as a PhD student in February 2021. Her research investigates how value perceptions are shaped and built through cultural and economic systems and how understanding those mechanisms for defining value might be leveraged to drive more equitable dynamics across organizations, communities, and societies.
Michelle’s PhD is entitled “Systems of Domination: The Hegemony of Fashion, Neoliberalism, and the Commodification of Everyday Life.” Her study aims to understand the covert processes at work within the system of fashion which invest in, partner with, perpetuate, and amplify existing problematized subjects including hegemony, neoliberalism, and fashion itself. This work is supervised by Michael J Roy and Elaine Ritch.
Michelle serves as the Program Director for the MSc Sustainable Fashion and graduate student research advisor at Glasgow Caledonian New York College (GCNYC) where she leverages her more than 15 years of industry experience in social business strategy, product development, supply chain management, and operations for fashion and consumer product brands.
