Nick is an experienced lecturer and researcher and currently acts as the Department Learning and Teaching Advisor in the Department of Fashion, Marketing, Tourism and Events. After 14 years at the University of Central Lancashire and the University of Salford, Nick joined GCU as Programme Lead for BA International Tourism and Events Management in 2020. Nick specialises in teaching tourism and events and in particular in the areas of sustainable tourism and events management, people management, current issues in tourism and events and strategic event tourism management. He is also a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
With experience of managing and collaborating in more than 100 research projects, Nick continues to publish in a number of areas under the umbrella of sustainability. Recent publications include a study on the relationship between blue spaces, wellbeing and leisure, an analysis of the potential of e-cargo bikes for last-mile delivery, and an evaluation of Mobility as a Service. His PhD, completed in 2016, focused on the relationship between the choices of walking tourists and natural environments.
Other work include the development of the £1.7 million Nature Based Solutions Living Lab at University of Salford, an analysis of the economic and social impacts of cycle tourism in Europe for the European Commission and the delivery of a number of projects for the European Parliament and Commission as part of an expert panel in transport and tourism, including on Industrial Heritage and Rural tourism, passenger rights and monitoring greenways.
