Norah Palmateer is a Reader in Public Health and co-lead of the Sexual Health and Blood Borne Viruses Research Group. She also holds an honorary appointment with Public Health Scotland.
She holds an MSc in epidemiology from the University of Edinburgh and a PhD in public health from the University of Glasgow, which she completed part-time. After working as an Epidemiologist with NHS Public Health Scotland (formerly Health Protection Scotland) from 2006, Norah joined GCU as a Senior Research Fellow in January 2016.
She has over 15 years of research experience relating primarily to the epidemiology and prevention of blood borne viruses and other infections associated with injecting drug use and has published extensively on these topics in the academic literature. She has been principal or co-investigator on grants including national bio-behavioural surveillance/research of people who inject drugs (Needle Exchange Surveillance Initiative (NESI)), and reviewing the evidence base to inform European infectious disease guidance. Her research has directly contributed to impact through informing Scottish and UK strategy in relation to blood borne viruses.
