Dr Ricky WK WU graduated from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (HK PolyU). He joined the Department of Biological and Biomedical Sciences as a Lecturer in September 2021.
Ricky’s research interest is photodynamic therapy (PDT). He has worked in the PDT area for more than 10 years investigating the therapeutic efficacy and bio-mechanisms of PDT in various cancer models and clinical multi-drug resistant pathogens. His research aims to identify novel bio-targets of PDT using 3D spheroid culture models, including viral microRNAs and mRNAs in cancers, cell signalling pathways, metabolic pathways and the immune system. Recently, his research focused on understanding the role of PDT treatment in nasopharyngeal carcinoma and ovarian cancer 3D spheroid models.
In parallel to PDT research, Ricky also studies the use of cell-free DNA in molecular diagnostics and forensic DNA analysis.
Ricky is a Chartered Scientist, a Fellow of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences, and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology. He regularly presents his work at national and international research conferences.
Research Interests: Nasopharyngeal carcinoma, Ovarian cancer, photodynamic therapy, gene regulation, combined therapy, Molecular Diagnostics.
