Stevie trained in the early-mid 90s at Forth Valley College of Nursing before graduating from Stirling University, and subsequently GCU. Most of his clinical experience was gained in Medical ICU at Falkirk Infirmary / CCU at Stirling Infirmary, where he developed a wide ranging scope of practice; including being among the first nurses in Scotland to treat patients with thrombolytic therapy independently of medical staff, and implement nurse initiated Bi PAP and CPAP.
In the Mid 2000s Stevie moved to a newly developed role as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner. This lead to him taking up a joint appointment between GCU and NHS Forth Valley; a 2-year part time fixed term post as a lecturer / practitioner, where he helped deliver Advancing Practice modules. He later became the Lead Resuscitation Officer at Forth Valley Hospital in Falkirk.
In 2014 Stevie moved fully into higher education when he took up a lecturing post at UWS, where he taught into the BSc Nursing and the MSc Advanced Nursing Practice Programmes. Then in August 2016, Stevie joined GCU as a lecturer and teaches into all years of the BSc Nursing Studies programme, and is the Deputy Programme Lead for the MSc Nursing: Advancing Professional Practice. He is also a member of the Association of Advanced Practitioners Educators, is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, and is the External Examiner for Ulster University’s MSc Advanced Nursing Practice Programme.
