Lecturer in Pharmacology

Department of Biological and Biomedical Sciences

Yvonne Dempsie graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Pharmacology from the University of Glasgow in 1998 and subsequently undertook a PhD at the University of Nottingham. She then returned to Glasgow University in 2003 to take up a post-doctoral position with Professor Mandy MacLean studying the role of serotonin in the development of pulmonary arterial hypertension.

Yvonne took up a lectureship in the Department of Life Sciences at Glasgow Caledonian University in 2012.

Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a devastating and often fatal disease that occurs more frequently in women than in men. Current drugs are aimed at prolonging life rather than reversing the disease and so new therapies are urgently required. My research is aimed at improving our understanding of why PAH occurs in some individuals. A better understanding of the disease process will ultimately aid the development of novel therapeutic agents.
