What’s involved?
GCU London has created a rolling, work-based shadowing programme for 14-16 year olds from Eastbrook School. The programme has been developed inline with four meaningful points of engagement, incorporating input and participation from GCU London professional services and academic colleagues.
The programme aims to show young people the diverse range of jobs that exist in the University environment as well as giving them the opportunity to engage with people from different backgrounds and experiences. Several GCU London postgraduate students have also participated in the programme, delivering a workshop session on personal branding.
How will participating in this activity/opportunity allow students to make a positive difference to the communities that we serve?
Overall the shadowing programme has provided the opportunity for GCU London staff and students to participate directly in the Common Good, inspiring young people to think about their career aspirations and giving insight into the opportunities that exist within the education sector.
What are the benefits of taking part in this activity/opportunity for participating students?
This initiative has brought and continues to bring, benefits to the pupils of Eastbrook School, GCU London staff, GCU London students and the Students’ Association, who can all be rightly proud of the success of the programme.
Success stories
Ten pupils from Eastbrook School completed the four-day programme in June 2016. Ten pupils will return for their second set of two days in May/June 2017. At this same time, a new group of pupils will commence the work-based shadowing programme.
