Advanced Research Methods
This module has been designed to develop your knowledge of the evaluation of literature, research design and data interpretation. You will be able to discriminate between different research methodologies to determine the most suitable answer to practice-based questions you would be likely to face in a real world setting.
The Principles and Theory of Public Health Practice
You will examine the principles of health needs assessment, the importance of public health policies, the factors which influence the formulation of public health policies, the wider public health workforce and the ways in which leadership can influence the success of public health interventions.
Epidemiology: Principles, Application and Evaluation in Practice
You will develop and enhance your understanding of epidemiological approaches and their application to public health practice. The module aims to develop a practical understanding of how the techniques used to undertake epidemiological studies can be applied to gather and interpret information which can support the planning and implementation of new public health initiatives and evaluate existing activities.
Social Action Approaches in Public Health
Guided by the Social Determinants approach to health, this module aims to encourage and enable you to enhance your knowledge and understanding on how community development approaches aim to support communities to address health inequalities, while providing you with the skills to be able to critically analyse and evaluate the relationship between public health theory and its application to social action.
Health Economics
This module is designed to provide students with the analytical tools to understand, from an economic perspective: the nature of health care systems internationally; techniques to assess specific health intervention programmes; and frameworks for evaluating actions on determinants of health and wellbeing.
Applied Statistics and Data Analysis for Public Health
This module aims to develop your knowledge and skills in interpreting statistical information, designing a statistical data analysis plan and executing appropriate statistical data analysis. You will be supported to demonstrate statistical data entry skills and the ability to plan and conduct data analyses to answer relevant public health related questions using appropriate statistical software.
Master's Dissertation
In undertaking this project you will engage in independent self-directed learning using established techniques of research inquiry to explore a topic in an area of professional practice relevant to you. The Dissertation can be completed by undertaking an 'Empirical study' or a 'Structured Literature Review'.

Navigating the Policy Context
You will develop a critical awareness of contemporary public health policies and explore the evidence used to underpin these. The module will enable you to critically evaluate current policy and formulate an evidence based action plan for addressing a public health issue.
Infection Prevention and Control in a Global Context
You will be encouraged to engage with underpinning knowledge from the disciplines of epidemiology, microbiology, infection prevention, health protection and public health. You will explore the contemporary issues, current successes and need for action at local, national and global levels to prevent, treat and control infections worldwide.
Evidence Based Public Health
This will include an overview of the sources and methods used to generate evidence for use within public health practice, and how this is synthesised and applied. You will be encouraged to use tools and frameworks for critical appraisal of public health interventions and to critically analyse and evaluate monitoring and evaluation strategies used for public health initiatives.
