Top tips for Open Day

Finding the right degree course at university can be tricky and attending an open day can be very helpful in doing so. But we bet you're asking yourself: what is an Open Day? Who will I meet? What can I do to prepare?

Not to worry, we're here to help. Here are our top tips:

Don’t worry about arriving on your own

University open days are our way of connecting with you, and an opportunity for you to see our modern and vibrant city centre campus first hand. It is an informal visit, and there will be plenty of people on campus just like you.

Don’t be afraid of coming to Open Day by yourself as our staff and student helpers will be here to welcome you. You can also come with an Open day buddy: Mum, Dad. friend, teacher etc. Bring whoever you feel will help you find the university which suits you best.

Ask questions about the University

Coming to Open Day is your chance to get as much information as possible to help you with your university selection process. Remember, this day has been organised specially for you so don’t worry and ask away.

There will be talks by our leading academics throughout the day,but if you miss them, don’t worry. You'll also find our academics on the information stands around campus.

Here are some example questions to ask course representatives: What are the entry requirements for this course? What is the structure? What module options are there? What are the employment opportunities? What have previous graduates gone on to do?

Have a chat with the student helpers

Coming to Open Day is the perfect opportunity to not only interact with academic staff but also to speak to current students of the University.

Student helpers will be wearing bright-red t-shirts on the day and will answer any questions you have about student life at Glasgow Caledonian. This real-life insight will be invaluable in deciding where to study.

Also, be sure to make full use of the talks and information stands on funding, SAAS, the Students’ Association, studying abroad and how to apply to university.

Get to know the campus

The best way to get a sense of the University’s personality and culture is to take a tour of the campus. Our friendly student helpers will show you all the different areas of our University like The Sir Alex Ferguson Library, ARC Heath and Wellbeing Facility, the Students’ Association, and places to eat. Once the tour is finished, you may then feel more comfortable to check out other areas of the campus by yourself but group tours will always be there too.

This is also are a great opportunity to chat with other potential students and see what questions they have been asking so you can make the most out of your time there.
