Cost of Attendance (CoA) The Cost of Attendance (COA) will be provided to you on your Financial Aid Letter once you have completed your FAFSA. The CoA is an estimate of your educational related costs for the academic year less any scholarships that you have been awarded (from any source).
GCU will provide a 5% early payment discount which is calculated after all other GCU scholarships are deducted from tuition fees to all Title IV eligible students without regard to when their charges are paid

The CoA for students studying at Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) is set by the Student Funding Team and is increased in line with inflation for each academic year. These educational costs relate only to you, the student. These costs cannot include costs for partners or children (other than childcare or nursery costs). These broad based costs can be broken down as follows as a guide as to how much you may need for your year of study:
The Cost of Attendance consists of two elements:
Tuition costs Living costs. Please note, whilst your CoA can include Travel, we cannot issue loan payments before the beginning of the academic year so you should not rely on your first payment to finance your travel to GCU Glasgow or GCU London
If you are eligible for a Subsidized loan, your Student Aid Index (SAI) will also be deducted from a CoA figure to establish your ‘financial need’.
The college or career school will determine your financial need by subtracting your SAI from the cost of attendance . Learn more about how financial aid is calculated .
SAI Formula for a Dependent Student: Parents’ Contribution from Income + Parents’ Contribution from Assets + Student’s Contribution from Income + Student’s Contribution from Assets
SAI Formula for an Independent Student: Student’s Contribution from Income + Student’s Contribution from Assets
Your SAI will be listed on your FAFSA Submission Summary .
For the academic year 2024/25, the cost of attendance exchange rate will be 1.35
The maximum Cost of Living paid to students (with no dependents) in 2024/25 have been listed below.
Direct Loans incur fees and interest and must be repaid so do not borrow more than you need.

Tuition fees

If you have arranged sufficient loan funds, we will deduct this equally from your loan disbursements to pay your fee in full.
If your loans are less than the tuition fee, we will estimate how much will be received in sterling and ask you to make up any shortfall which you can do through a payment plan with our Finance team
Most students will need a combination of Direct Loans (Subsidized, Unsubsidized and PLUS loans) to cover the full CoA.
Accommodation costs

You are responsible for paying your own accommodation costs. For students living in University accommodation we will deduct this equally from your loan disbursements to pay your fee in full.
Please note: Essential medical costs and additional course costs can be added if evidence is provided.
Dependent costs

The US Dept. of Education does not allow additional lending for a spouse. However, if you have dependent children the regulations will allow for the cost of childcare whilst you are attending your studies. Please note that this is the only cost allowed for dependents.
Contact us if you have dependents and need to include the cost of registered childcare in your Cost of Attendance.
Disbursement of aid is conditional upon the following:
Maintaining satisfactory academic progress Enrolled at least half time (at least 50% of a full study load) Studying outside of the USA Compliance with all US Federal regulations (repayment default, fraud, etc). You will receive notification when funds are due for disbursement. Those wanting to cancel or reduce disbursements must make requests to US federal loans.

Direct Unsubsidized Loan eligibility

Direct PLUS Loan eligibility

Fees and Interest Rates
Origination Fees
arrow_forward
Most federal student loans have loan fees that are a percentage of the total loan amount. The loan fee is deducted proportionately from each loan disbursement you receive while enrolled in school. This means the money you receive will be less than the amount you actually borrow. You’re responsible for repaying the entire amount you borrowed and not just the amount you received. Origination fees change each year.
Interest Rates
arrow_forward
The interest rate varies depending on the loan type and (for most types of federal student loans) the first disbursement date of the loan. Interest rates change each year from the 1st July.
The FY 25 sequester fees are the same as the FY 24 sequester fees. This means for all loans where the first disbursement is made on or after Oct. 1, 2020, and before Oct. 1, 2025 , the loan fees are as follows:
1.057% for Direct Subsidized Loans and for Direct Unsubsidized Loans. As an example, the loan fee on a $5,500 loan would be $58.13.
4.228% for Direct PLUS Loans (for both parent borrowers and graduate and professional student borrowers). As an example, the loan fee on a $10,000 loan would be $422.80.
Loan fee calculations that result in more than two decimal places must be truncated (not rounded) to two digits after the decimal point (cents).
