Maths Summer School

The Maths Summer School (MSS) is delivered by the School of Computing, Engineering and Built Environment (SCEBE) at Glasgow Caledonian University and has been designed for students who, as part of their conditional offer, are required to complete additional maths modules. For students holding conditional offers full engagement with the MSS is compulsory.

Other SCEBE offer-holders with an unconditional offer, who would like to update their maths knowledge and study skills, may also engage with the MSS.

Dates and times

The MSS for 2024 will be delivered in a blended learning manner (online and in-person) over two and a half weeks on weekdays between Monday, 19 August and Wednesday, 4 September 2024. There is no cost to take part in the MSS.

Between 19 August and 30 August (inclusive), the MSS will be delivered fully online. From Monday, 2 September tutorial and revision sessions will be delivered at the Glasgow Caledonian campus until the exam on Wednesday, 4 September. Preparations are currently being finalised for this mode of delivery and offer-holders who are required to attend the MSS will be updated nearer the time with further information.

How you will learn

Teaching sessions will consist of a mixture of online lectures and in-person tutorials which students must attend. Lecture materials including notes, slides, worked examples and audio/video recordings of any online live lectures will be made available on a virtual learning environment. For each block of study, students are expected to attempt a set of homework exercises. The interactive tutorials will be used for students to discuss any questions arising from these exercises. Students requiring additional support with the course material should contact the relevant lecturer.

All students who are required to engage with the MSS as part of their conditional offer must pass a compulsory exam which takes place on 04 September 2024.

Registration and offers

Throughout the summer period, our Admissions Team will invite all eligible students to participate in the MSS as and when HN results are officially confirmed. Admissions at Glasgow Caledonian obtain official confirmation of results from colleges or the SQA. An email inviting students to register for the MSS will be sent to students once their results have been confirmed. Students must register for the MSS to be able to access online sessions and accompanying resources. Once the registration process has been completed, the SCEBE will contact students by email in the run-up to the MSS with any additional information.
